"Digital Signature - Personal certificate store" - Empty Dropdown

Hi,

last week I noticed that the dropdown list of the "certificate store" is empty and I'm unable to select my certificate from my usb token/dongle.
So I installed some older versions of AdvancedInstaller and in version 15.6 I'm able to select my certificate. I don't know where between the version 15.6 and 16.5 this gets broken.
And while I writing this, I noticed, in the current version the label of the dropdown has changed and no longer contains the word "Personal"....

Is this a bug or what do I need to change, to get it working again?

in the current version the label of the dropdown has changed and no longer contains the word "Personal"....
Indeed, you are right. This happens because lately we have added the detection of certificates from other stores as well, such as: "Root" ,"CA" , "Trust" , "TrustedPeople" , "TrustedPublisher" , "AuthRoot" , "CertificateAuthority", therefore a name change for that option was necessary.

In what regards the issue, unfortunately I can not say for sure why that happens (it is even worse as I can not test this scenario, since I do not own an USB certificate). Please give me some more time to discuss this matter with our development team and I will come back to you afterwards.

As a followup to my last thread, you can find below a download link for a debug EXE:

Please download the advinst.exe from the drive and replace the one from the following path:

%programfiles(x86)%\Caphyon\Advanced Installer 16.5\bin\x86
with it.

After doing so, launch Advanced Installer and, as you navigate to "Digital Signature" page and expand the combo box, a log file should be created in the following location:

WinDrive:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Caphyon\Advanced Installer\advinst.log
Please forward that log file to our e-mail address, support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can further investigate this matter.

Followup for other users who may have stumble across this as well:

Upon further investigation, I think that we may have found the culprit here.

In the past, some users have complained about the fact that the combo box that displays the certificates took a while to load (if there were a lot of certificates installed on the machine). Therefore, as an optimization, we have removed from our search the certificates that do not have a private key.

Based on that, my wild guess here would be that your certificate does not have a private key, therefore it is not detected by our search (in the latest versions of Advanced Installer). Could you please check this and confirm that this is the case?

From what I knew, it was not secure to have a certificate without a private key, however I may have been wrong. We will include the certificates that do not have a private key in our searches in a future version of Advanced Installer.

thank you for your investigation.
Based on that, my wild guess here would be that your certificate does not have a private key, therefore it is not detected by our search (in the latest versions of Advanced Installer). Could you please check this and confirm that this is the case?
I looked at the client info tool of the USB token and I can see a private key at our certificate.

I'm looking forward to the new version of AI.
